Chicago now has a scientific youngster who rivals the 11-year-old liinllieuiutieiiin of Harvard. He is Kenton U. Torek Jr., tiie 7-yeur-old son of IJr. Kenton 11. Turck. 1820 Michigan avenue. who lectured on some of his expert inents in bacteriology at a meeting of microscope enthusiasts at tiie Ch cago Academy of Sciences. The boy demonstrated bis talk with slides of bis own making showing bacilli which he bad sei rated and mounted himself. Kenton H. Turck. .It., lias been experiment ing with the microscope for some time and has a laboratory where he works as long as his parents allow him. "1 am working on Intestinal bacil II now." he said. "Here are some from a nie. 1 haven't separated the gas bacilli from the colon bacilli yet and this just shows them mixed. Chinese troops today entered LhasBii. the capital of Thibet, and the residence of the Dalai Lama, the supreme head of the Lamaist hier archy, who, upon the approach of the soldiers, fled with several of their ministers Into India. Serious trouble has been expected, owing to the action of the small Chinese army, which, marching from Sze-Cheun, China, subdued Eastern Thibet, levying contributions on the Lama's home and showing no re Bpect for the monasteries. The Tibetaus, resenting the dese cration of their holy places, peti tioned the Chinese Foreign Board, praying that the Emperor of China Interfere In the interest of the Budd hists. The petition wus disregarded, as the Chinese propose to make the administration of the country purely Chinese. The Dalai Lama appealed to Lord Minto. the Viceroy of India, but he refused to interfere. SB.OOO Troops at Capital. LONDON. Feb. 23. The flight from Lhassa of the Dalai Lama will cause no surprise to close observers of the Chinese attitude toward the Thibetan people when lie was in Pekln.
