The federal census will bo taken in less than throe months from now and with these districts Included, Rose burg should show a population of between 6000 nnd 6000. Without them the city may fall below tho for mer figure. Rosolinrg cannot afford to be rated under tho 6000 cIuhs for the next ton years In all the govern ment reports of population. There fore prompt action should be taken by the peoplo of those additions to ward becoming annexed to tho city. The proposed new boundaries should be mapped out and then tho residents of the districts affected must hold an election to vote upon the mater of annexation. If the result Is fav orable and It probablv would be tho city council will promptly ratify their action and the city boundaries will be oxtended. The programme opened with de votional services, conducted by Rev. W. R. F. Ilrowne, pustor of the Drain M. 10. church, assisted by the choir of the Drain Christian church. The address of welcome on behalf of the Drain Sunday schools was made by Mr. N. D. Cool, superintendent of the Methodist church school. An excellent paper on the importance of Hunday school work was read by Mrs. Anna Richnrds, superintendent of the Christian church school. An address of unusuul merit was made by Rev. C. A. I'hlpps, the state secretary of tho association. The speakers theme was Illustrated by seven lights on Sunday school work, dwelling on each in his usual happy vein and Interestingly instructive manner, as follows. 1 Organization. 2 tlradlng and promotion. II Cradle roll. 4 Homo department. 6 Teacher training. C Organization or adult classes. 7 A passion for Bonis. Special music for tho evening was also furnished by the Christian hurch choir. Company E, Oregon National Guard, by a comparison of records, holds a most remarkable place in the military ranks, either lu the regular army or National Guardsmen, the I entire compuny of 72 men averaging sharpshooters. Organized In April, 1907, the first year's record at target practice proved tho men to be on an average considerably below the record of ' marksmen.
