the Naval Academy, is lookiug for
ward to the semi-annual examination
in February. He sayB the examina
tions are very hard and but little
time is given for each subject or
problem. If one fails In the semi
annual be Is called a "bilger," and
must try it all over again it he still
wishes to stay with It. Christmas at
the Naval Academy 1b a great day
for the lower classmen. For that
one day they exchange positions with
the upper classmen and appear at
breakfast with upper classmen's
blouses on, and the order of things
1b completely reversed. They inflict
all the Indignities on the upper class
men that they themselves have been
subjected to. Knowing they have
but one day's respite, and that It
. will all be paid back in full measure,
they get all tho enjoyment out of the
occasion they can. It breaks the
monotony to some extent, that for
at least one day tho poor "Plebes"
' rate "somebody," to use the Acad
emy vernacular.
