Marsters Drug Co. There is nothing that causes more worry and discomfort than a chronic, festering ulcer. As it lingers, slowly eating into the tissues and surrounding flesh, and by its tendency to grow worso in every way, it suosts the possi bility of being cancerous in its nature. Efforts to heal the ulcer by means of salves, washes, lotions, etc., always result in failure, because such treat ment can have no possible effect on the blood where the impurities and morbid matters form, and are carried thorugh the circulation to the place, to keep it op n, irritated and diseased. The impurities in the blood must be removed before the healing process can begin. S. S. S. goes to the fountain-head of the trouble, and drives out the erin-producing poisons and morbid impurities which keep the ulcer open. Then as this rich, purified blood is carried to the diseased place the healing commoners, the inflam mation gradually leaves, the discharge ceasns. new tissue and htmllhy ilesh are formed, and soon the sore is permanently cured because tho source has been destroyed. S. S. S. does not make a surface cure, but by supplying the blood with healthful, tissue-building properties it begins at tho bottom and causes the flesh at the diseased spot to firmly and permanently knit together, and the place is left sound and well Hook on Sores and Ulcers and any medical advice free to all who write. Paper there Gives Wrong Figures on the Cost of Maintaining Schools In Eugeue 'Eugene, Oregon, said to be about the site of North Yakima, and said by our prohibition friends to be the beat towu in tho Webfoot state since it went 'dry,' pays the superinten dent of its schools $1400 a year, and the cost of maintaining Its schools last year was $6680, accord ing to the report of the state sup erintendent of public Instruction. We should Judge that the Eugene people are not spending what they save on booie for the education of their children." The above Is a clipping from a North Yakima paper, says the Eu gene Guard, and was sent to Super intendent Stockton by a member of the board of education In that place who wauted to know the facts. The letter arrived while Superintendent Stockton was away from town and data could not be furnished lu time to be of use to those who fought the losing tight for local option in that place, but gives the following infor mation now: We do not know what report of the state superintendent is quoted above, but It has been a long time since the schools of Eugene cost on ly $6580 a year. For the yoar 1908-1909 the total expenditure for all school purposes was $58,016.41. Of this amount $29,072.50 was spent tor the salaries of the superintendent and 48 teach ers, and was divided as follows: Superintendent, $1500; high school principal, $1200; grade principals, $810; high Bchool teachers from $630 to $850; grade teachers, $450 to $540. As an interesting contrast we give below the figures on the same items tor the year 1905-1906, the last year we had open saloons in Eugene: Total expenditure for all school purposes, $27,723.96; for salaries, $17,204.92; superintendent's salary, $1200; high school principal, $630; grade principals, $630; high school teachers, $450 to $540; grade teach ers, $360 to $450. During the period betwoon these years the tax levy for school pur poses has risen from 3 mills to 8 Mi mills; a ten thousand dollar addi tion has been built to the high school and two eight-room grade buildings erected at a cost of $50,000. The district has on Its payroll for the year 1909-1910 sixty teachers, and Is paying its superintendent $1, 700. Novelties In all varieties for bath room use.
