The Btreet committee of the city council, the city recorder and city engineer are now busy figuring out the detailed street assessments on account of the street paving, etc. This Is a big ptece of work as not on ly the cost of the paving In each block Is to be considered, but also the ex act amount of curbing, excavating and the necessary drainage pipes, etc., must be Included. - The city pays half the expense of the paving from the bond Issue and the other half Is charged against, the abutting prop erty where the Improvements are made. At the street Intersections the corner lotB are charged with five ninths of the additional cost, and the next Inside lots bear the other four ninths. Figuring out all these several outlays for each block ad joining the paved area and apportion ing tho cost equitably to each in dividual piece of property Interested Is no small matter. Yet every detail must be carefully looked after and submitted to the city council at Its next regular meeting so the neces sary assessments against the property owners for their half of the expense of the paving, etc,, can be made. At a special election held yesterday the proposition to bond the city for $100. 000 for a gravity water system from Layng Creek was carried by a vote of 128 to 28.
