vail upon the president to take Mils
patronage from the congressmen and

did not favor Mr. Hendricks, either,
as Mr. Hendricks In his paper hat
printed editorials critical to the new
order of things In Oregon politics
and at this Mr. Hourne took offense

dricks and Mr. Heach were appoint
ed because the Indorsements tiled liv
MeBsra. lUwIey and Ellis showed
them competent men nnd further
more, because the Director of the
Census and Secretary of Commerce
and Labor are opposed to allowing
senators to control these appoint
ments. Messrs. Hendricks and Heach are
now given recess appointments and

With a bullet through his heart and
watch gone, Hector A. .Johnson. VI
years old, a prominent business mull
of Marshtleid, wns found dead last
night on Centrnl avenue, within three
blocks of his home. Mystery sur
rounds the case, and while the cor
oner's jury returned a verdict of sui
cide, friends and relatives of the
young man believe he was murdered
by someone who attempted to hold
him up.
The revolver was near the body
and one cartridge had been exploded.
The revolver belonged to Johnson's
brother and he had borrow it be
cause twice recently attempts bad
been made to hold him up. The
father of the young man believes ho
was killed In a struggle with some
one who was attempting to rob him.
