Divorce and y.100 Alimony Child Pleads In Vain For Possession of a Oog. t Portland, Oregon, Journal,'- Aug. 6: lilushlng prettily and with eyes flashing, Mrs. Elizabeth Jones today recited to Circuit Judge Cleland the tale of her marital difficulties with Charles Jones, to whom she was mar ried In Salt Lake, Utah, In 1905. She charged him with cruelty. "Once he bit me with a stick of wood, and then at the breakfast table he slapped me In the face until my nose bled, she declared vehem ently. Evelyn Virginia Hunter, the 13 year-old daughter of Mrs. Jones, cor rected her mother's testimony. "He hit her with a curtain pole,' averred Evelyn. The little girl also testified tbs Jones had beaten her with a horse- whp. She admitted she cried. "It hurt," said Evelyn. Mrs. Jones, who Is proprietor of a rooming bouse at 352 second street was allowed $f00 alimony. Jones runs a saloon at the corner of Clay and Second streets.- lie wsh restrain ed from in any way Interfering with his former wife. One of tho incidents of the hear ing of the Jones case was the plea of little Vlrglna Hunter as she stepped from the witness stand.
