Alto ranch, 19 miles east of this city, entailing a loss of $3500, with $1800 Insurance. A defective Hue was responsible for the lire. The premises were occupied by Wm. Rooney aud his wife aud mother, Fred Shelton and Ed. West, both members of the gang who have been working on the streets here the past month, were arrested by Sheriff Fen ton at the fair grounds yesterday af ternoon for drunkenness and for us ing profane laiguage. They will be given a hearing before Justice Long late this afternoon or tomorrow. While A. T. Thompson was asleep In a tent at his homo on Mill street, last night, an unknown mnn mnde an unsuccessful attempt to rob him of n sum-of money. In the pockets of his trousers, which lay under the mat tress. Tho man actually secured the trousers, but in doing so he raised the mattress roughly and awoke Mr. Thomjvson, who took in the situation Instantly and called out to his son, sleeping In tho woodshed, several feot away, to bring him a gun. This caus ed the thief to drop the garment without searching It and take to his heels.
