Y., June 15. Not able among the speakers at the Na tional Conference of Charities and Corrections, which Is being held In this citV, was Dr. W. H. Friedman, president of the Colorado State Hoard of Charities, who opened today's ses sion with a paper on "The Great Wrong of Sending Advanced Con sumptives Away From Home." Dr. Friedman gave startling figures as to the financial burden that char itable societies in his state carried annually and showed how Colorado had become a veritable dumping ground for the'sick from all parts of the nation to the tremendous drain of the state funds, and to but slight gain to the sick. Speaking of the practice of send ing consumptives away from home, Dr. Y S. Friedman, president of the Colorado state conference of char ities, said: "Colorado or any other health re sort as a last chance is a lost chance for advanced consumptives. Every humanitarian impulse urges such patients to remain at home. It Is an injustice and an irreparable Injury to the sufferers to send them away. The sudden change from sea level to a highland, rarifled atmosphere, the wearing hardships of travel aggra vate complications and hasten death. Besides 'Incurables' wield a danger ous Influence over 'curables.' To place these Ill-starred victims of the valley of the shadow of death in hourly contact with those whose hearts beat high with hope Is a piti able attempt at performing service. Hair and Roa Brothers, amounting to fully 2,500, 000 pounds, was sold last night to fteorge Colby, who socured it for Hallowed, Jones and Donald, of Bos ton. It is not known exactly what price was paid, hut it is said to have been about 23 cents. It is known that the clip was being held for 24 cents and the' purchaser said todny that, he did not pay quite that much for It. The Balr clip is the largest individual wool holding In the world.
