A remarkably realistic reproduc tion of the pugilistic contest at Syd ney, AuKtiullu, between Tammy Hums find Jack Johnson for the huvy weight championship of the world, wr--. prevented nt the Star Theatre this afternoon on moving pic ture films. These pictures told the story of the fistic championship with out indicating remarkable pugilistic ability on (he part of tlie colored man. Johnson overcame Hums by virtue of superior weight and height, and relied mostly upon tills prestige, lie was fully ttu pounds heavier than the white man, and more than six Inches taller, and though Hums was always fresh and quick, on his feet tit the end of each of the 14 rounds he was plulaly too badly handicapped by the preponderance of weight and height. Another feature that excited com ment was the ring generalship dis played by Johnson In almost invar iably finishing each round in his own comer, necessitating the consumption of time nnd distance for Burns to get back to the care of his seconds. Throughout the fight Johnson pur sued the tactics of closing In on his antagonist with frequent rushes, giv ing him a taste of the white man's burden in sustaining the overpower ing weight of the negro. It is ex tremely questionable whether he would meet with much success in these tactics when pitted against Jeffries, providing the latter is any where near the Jeffries of old. It was simply another case like the fight at New Orleans between Jack Deuip sey and Hob Fitzslmmons, of a clever middleweight going up against a clever heavyweight without demon strating any superior advantage of the larger man from a boxing stand point. The films will bo shown at The Star Theatre again this evening and this evening only. The price of ad mission Is 10 and 15 cents.
