Portland Oregonlan, May 5; Tues day was a red letter day for the Nor rlB & Rowe circus. It will no doubt be remembered by H. S. Rowe, pro prietor of the show, as "attachment day." Seven different employes of the circus took legal recourse Tues day to collect unpaid salaries due them, and attachments were Borvea on the amusement enterprise by pinc ers from both the constable b and the sheriff's offices. Through their at torneya the employes declared that the circus equipment would never leave. TAFT FAVORS INCOME TAX AS LAST RESORT, WASHINGTON, Mny 5 The presi dent has declared that he favors an income tax only as a last resort, and that recourse, in case of a aertciency under the new tariff, should be first had to an inheritance tax and next to a corporation tax. President Tuft has . come to tho conclusion, as a result of his talk with senators and representatives, that there Is little or no chance of the adjournment of congress before June 1 5 or July 1. OREGON'S CIVIL WAR CLAIM IS ALLOWED. WASHINGTON, May 5. The court of claims has mado public Its finding on the claim of the State of Oregon for reimbursement on account of the expense It shouldered In raising and maintaining volunteer troopers dur ing the Civil War. The court, ua an nounced last December, holds that the state Is entitled to recover 8193. 543 from tho government, but disal lows the balance of Its claim on the ground that It Is neither legal nor equitable.
