Ida Hansen, a pretty girl of 16 years, when refused permission to join a party of young friends who had ar ranged an outing for last night and had Invited Miss Hansen to attend, swallowed carbolic acid and died al most before a doctor could be called to the homo. The act was committed with a haste and Impetuosity which was startling and so shocked the dead girl's mother, who was virtually M witness, that she la seriously 111. Considering her daughter unusual ly headstrong but not to the degree that she would resort to such an ex tremity when not given her way, Mrs. Hansen determined yesterday to put a stop to her associating with a num ber of youug people of whose de meanor she did not approve. Atter the midday meal the young girl asked her mother If she might go out last night. Mrs. Hansen talked kindly to her and gave her some good advice, ending by telling her that she would not allow her to go. Eugene Guard: The county and district fair committees aro very act ive just now and will continue to be so until the fair comes off next Sep tember. This morning the building committee rode out to the grounds In Cal Young's Kamblor auto and decid ed upon tho exact location of the grand stund, and work oil the struc ture was begun immediately after ward. It will be located on the south side of the track, a couple of hundred feet west of the east end. It will be built square with the track, so as to give everybody In the stand an equal show to see the horses at the start and also at the finish. Some of the committee argued that It should he located In Buch a manner that at tho flnlwh all could see the horses with out gutting up out of their seats, but this arrangement would preclude a good view of the start. The grand stand will be J 44 reel long by 4G feet wide, and will seat over 1000 persons. It can be enlarg ed If found too small. The stone for the pavilion, which will be a commodious affair, has al) been delivered and work on the struc ture will be commenced at once. Judge Matthew (J. Reynolds yesterday handed down a decision to this effect. This decision, said by attorneys to be the first of its kind, holds to be of no effect In law one of the cardinal prin ciples, of the Catholic church which requires non-Catholics who marry Catholics to sign an ante-nuptlal con tract giving control of the religious education of any children born of the mariage to the Catholic parent to the union. "Sen tences were Imposed today on sevtt persons convicted within the last few weeks in the municipal graft cases, as follows: W. W. Ramsey, former National Bank president, convicted of bribery, one year and six mouths' imprison ment and a fine of $1UU. Captain John F. Klein, councilman, two years and a fine of $1000 on brib ery conviction and one year and six months on the conspiracy conviction. Joseph C. Wasson and William Brand, former councilmen, each one year and six months and a fine of $500, for conspiracy. H. M. Itolger, botelkeeper, two years and a fine of $500 for bribery.
