Ike I. Lorcho, advertising manager
of A. HarrU & Company, of Dallas,
Teias, recently delivered an address
on "The Practical Side of Advertis
ing a Itetall Btore" at a meeting or
the Dallas Advertising League.
Among other things Mr. Lorche said:
"My experience Is to use the dally
papors to the tune of about 75 per
cent of the yearly amount, for, after
all, advertising Is nothing more than
live store news. People are not in
terested In what you did last week or
what you aro going to do the next,
but they are vitally Interested in
what you are doing today, and let
me say right here that I consider ten
Items properly displayed In the daily
paper worth more than 10,000 calen
dars given away during the year."
S. S. S. is known a3 Nature's Cure for Contacious Blood Toison because
it is prepared entirely from the blood purifying aud healing extracts of roots,
berbs aud barks taken directly from the natural forests of the laud. It does
not contain the least particle of strong mineral ingredients and is so pre
pared as to aid in the upbuilding of every portion of the system, while driv
ing Contagious Mood Poison from the blood. No tiupleasant effects ever
follow the use of S. S. S., such as stomach troubles, dyspepsia, mercurial
rheumatism, etc., as is so often the case where other medicines are used.
S. S. S. goes down to the very bottom of the trouble and gently but surely,
drives out every trace of the disease, cleanses and purifies the circulation, and
by its fine vegetable tonic effects, assists the system to rapidly overcome the
ravages of the disease, and regain its natural healthful condition. S. S. S.
does not cover tip or hide the symptoms for awhile, to break out later, but
so thoroughly docs it remove the cause that no signs of the trouble ever re
turn. H. S. S., Nature s cure, is tue surest ana salest remedy forContngious
Blood Poison. Home Treatment Book with valuable suggestions aud lulor-
mation, and any medical advice free to all who write.

Congressmen who hnd entertain

by restoring the duty on lumber' to
lumber to $2 are beginning to fear
that they will be lucky if they hold
the present provision of $1 per thou

to the Speaker, who Is reported to be
considering the advisability of call

WoBternerB aro much concerned
ovor tho apparent Inclination of the
Speaker to place lumber on the free

of free hides. Such a combination, If

When a girl has throttled herself
with a baud of rigid Uuon that para
lyzes her neck miracles and Haws a
crimson line beneath her chin; whon
she has cut off her breathing power
abruptly at tho waist, burdened her
back with a mans of swinging, drag
ging cloth, poised a winged, be-rlb-
boned monstrosity on her head, and
dazzled her eyes with fluttering dots
and dashes, she looks her very best.
She Is chic, she is good form, she
pleases our distorted vision as no
exponent of nature's law ever could.
Seeing her coming, one recognizes
tho fact, at once, thnt she is "pos
sible," thnt is, that there is no outer
reason why she should not belong to
the inner circle of Vanity Fair. The
impossible watch her pass with frank
envy, or with a labored Indifference
that betrays the same feeling. The
socially probable lenn forward In
their broughams to eee If she Is not
a porson to bo bowed to. Those who
rule the social world meet hor gra
ciously and give hor a fair chance to
prove horsolf worthy of their sot,
whore an equally deserving person,
In an easy-going collar and an unre
stricted diaphragm would be passed
over Indifferently nnd must cut her
way through a thicket of pride and
prejudice If nhe Is to enter at all.
A girl's outer detail forms a sort of
sign language .and though it takes a
social export to read It with absolute
accuracy, no ono can miss its general
meaning. The more valiantly she has
sacrificed personal comfort to the tor
turing laws of correct feminine gear
ing, the more the masculine spec
tator wants to know her and to have
it known of men that she knows him.
; quick pace sets her heart pounding
angrily at its barriers and a passing
wind swirls her into a helpless mass
of skirts, but Bhe never has to strug
gle with a heavy swing door, or push
an elevator button with her own fin
gers, or wait unnoticed at a crowded
counter. The world steps aside for
her and she walks unjostled in a
glittering social haze. Sho finds a
velvet cloak at every puddle; surely
bodily freedom Is not a high price to
pay for all of this. Ex.
