The formal will of the late Robert Den nlson Hume, canneryman and ship owner, who died at Wedderburn, Or., January 25 last, was offered for pro bate In the Superior court yesterday by Mary A. Hume, the widow, and Charles H. Warner,, administrators of the estate, which is valued at between 4O0,600 and $500,000. A month ago special letters were granted' to the administrators in this county. To the widow is left the San Fran cisco home at 944 Chestnut street, and all the personal property of the testator therein. In addition she Is given all of the personal property In the Piedmont home, which stands In her name, together with all stocks and bonds of which he was vested at the time or his death, and .20,000 In cash. To Mrs. Harriet Neal, R. D. Atkin son and Mabel Langevin, of Oakland, Helen T. Hume and Edith Hume, nieces, of St. ' Helens, and Robert Hume, a nephew, he leaves $5000 cash each. The balance of the estate after paying these legacies, Is lump ed and divided among 14 other rela tives. . IK! la HARRISBURO. Pa., March 9. Rose Cohen, an 8-year-old girl. Is con valescing in the Harrisburg Hospital after having been operated on Sun day for appendicitis by mistake. The child and her 11-year-old brother were sent'to the Institution suffering with enlarged tonsils. In some un explained manner the girl was given an anesthetic and her appendix was taken out. The surgeonB say that the appendix was Bomewhat inflamed and they did nob discover their mis take until the parents called. The humorous feature of the case Is the assertion that the condition of the little girl's appendix showed that she would have developed appendicitis anyway and that the operation, there fore, was a fortunate mistake. 4, 4, 4,H,l'4 . LOCAL NEWS. A. M. Shannon, ' of tho Warren Construction Co., which was last August awarded the contract for street paving in this city, arrived here from Portland tins morning. When asked about the beginning of work here after the paving bonds aro sold, he laconically remarked: "We will begin work before the ink has time to dry after the contract is sign ed.1' The bids for the bonds are to be opened' by the city council next Monday night, and as several bids are assured, It is probable that the bonds will be sold at the same meeting. Within a tew days thereafter the bonds will doubtless be accepted by the successful bidder and tho paving contract signed.
