The county court has certainty "done Itself proud" in starting the new year. Its action for building good roads will give Douglax county the biggest boost it has ever bad. . With over $100,00 to be expended for building good roads in this coun ty this year, Koseburg must, by all uieaus, keep pace with the general advancement by paving several of the principal streets. We've simply got to have them. Yes, the weather Is frosty, but, ns usual, oUier places are having It far colder, zero temperatures being re ported In the Willamette Vulluy, an well as In eastern Oregon and all over Washington. The newcomer wlJl make no mistake In locating In Douglas county. Since Drain and Cottage Grove each want a new county, and with their proposed boundaries far over lapping each other, "a scrap worth while" may bo looked for when thoy get their respective bills before the legislature. Should either of these communities succeed In their ambi tion which outcome doesn't .look very flattering at present most of the peoplo therein will And that the greater portion of what they have gained will be a decided Increase in thoLr tax burden. At an ad journed mooting of the Commercial Club here Saturday arternoon, reso lutions were again passed opposing the proposed new county, to bo mad up of portions of Lane and Douglas as outlined by Cottage drove citizens and In addition also passed a rosoln tion to have a bill Introduced In tlx legislature at the coming session t( create a new county out of parts ol Lane and Douglas, but on much mori consistent lines, all things considered. The boundaries proposed are: Bo ginning at the ocenn end of the line between Lane and DouglnB, runnlnu easterly on that line to an Intersec tion with the line between town ships 20 and 21 south, then east on that lino to the Willamette Meridian thence south 6 miles, thence east to onBt boundary of Lane county, nt the summit of the mountains, tjienci eouth along that boundnry to tin line between Lane and Douglas, thence west on the Douglas and Lam boundary to tho center line east and west through Tp. 24 south, thence due west to the line between Doug laa and Coos counties, then follow that line to the ocean and then along the beach northward to tho place ol beginning. These proposed Unci would run Just north of Dlvldo, leav ing Cottage drove and Latham in Lane county and would not tnko a very large slice of Lnno, hut a larger portion of Douglas. Tho lino through Douglas would run Just south ot Rlao Hill and Includo tho Kellogc country and nil the lower llnipntri and nmko a much better shuped county than that proposed by the Cottago drovo lioople. The action Is taken, not merely to see that the provisions of the local option law are complied with, though that Is probably the question which Is most prominently before he people of the community at this time, but it will be the aim of the society to see that proper res pect is shown the law in all a Its formB. Myrtle Creek Mull. We predict that within the next ten years there will be at least three counties of this great domain we are at present pleased to term Douglas county. North Douglas will be cut off and organized as a separate coun ty with Drain as the county seat, while Bouth Douglas will be formed Into a new county with the county seat either at Myrtle Creek or Riddle. There has been enough money paid out of the taxpayers' pockets within Douglas county since Its organization, in the way of mileage fees o sher iffs, and other of our county officials, to have built and furnished new court houses at Drain and Myrtle Creek. W. M. Davis and wife, of Chicago after looking all southern Oregon over for a location, -have' selected Myrtle Creek as the most favorable spot, and have purchased four lots in Johnson addition, on corner of John son Street, opposite E.
