Fearing another beating from her

Thursday, applied for a peace under
taking against him, and this bad the

charge of assault with a dangerous
weapon upon his two little children.
Hewes' father, E. I. Hewes, of this
city, who went to Myrtle Creek on
Thuresday, failed In his attempt to
get his son's bond reduced from $1,
500 to $1,000, but he secured a bond
for the larger sum after returning
to Roseburg. Upon learning, how
ever, that the authorities were ready
to arrest his son. upon the peace un
dertaking the moment he stepped
from jail, Mr. Hewes did not present
his bond.
