The heaviest fine' yet Imprtped by

meted out In his court Monday after
noon to Ralph Knight,-who occupied
his time In.jnll- liiHt Saturday night
by wrecking an iron door with a (10
pound Iron uall. . The amount of tho
fine was $40 or $10 less than' tho
maximum prescribed by law. Knight
fmia the amount and was discharged
from custody.' The Incident was com
mented upon by Mayor Hoover during
the council meeting Monday night.
He suggested' that' city policeman be
Instructed to confine drunkards or
other prisoners inclined to violence In
the Inner celts of the jail until such
time as their condition warranted
them being allowed In the corridor.
Marshal Hansbrough assumed respon
sibility for tho affair in question, ex
plaining that It was due to his luck
of acquaintance with the jail prem
ises. He was not familiar with locks
on the inner cells, he said, neither
was he aware of the presence of the
big iron ball In tho corridor. This
statement closed the Incident.
