Re a boostor and attnnd that good
roads meeting next Friday.
City council meeta tonight. Don't
overlook that street paving.
Mr. William Corey did not attend
his sister's wedding, but he Bent a
check for one hundred thousand doi
Urn. This Is the kind of absence
that makes the heart grow fonder.
It Is all officially arranged that
Mr. Roosevelt will become an editor.
Ilow long ho will remain satisfied to
be heard but once a month renminB
to be seen. A correspondence Bchool
would seom better suited to his
tastes.
Travellers say the fruit on display
at the Commercial Club's new exhibit
building at the H. P. depot In this
city Ib the finest they have seen any
where along the line. Itouglas coun
ty is "there with the' goods" when
It comes to choice products In all
lines.
Douglas county orchards have Hip
' California orange groves distanced as
paying Investments. The latter are
Belling right along at $1000 to 1 5 00
per acre, 'while' here good orehardr
can now bo had at from '$250 to
$600 per aero and orchard land at
$150 to $200 per acre. Those prices
are llkoly to doublo during the com
ing year, however.
It would Boem a gratuitous super
orogatlon for the President to Jump
Into print again with a defense of Mr
Taffs religion. As Mr. Hoosevnll
says this Is a matter between Mr
Taft and "his maker." but Theodore
who has nevor yet loft any mattoi
to deity, attempts to Bottle the nuos
tlon with a valedictory essay on con
ficlonce. The people have elected
Mr. Taft and It might reasonably hi
supposed thot ho would be truster
to look out for himself from now on
Since election the usual talk li
hoard, alleging that the democrats
party -Is dead or dying. Actual re
Bulls, howevor, show that the part
Ifl very much alive. Tho 1904 demo
cratlc vote for Judge Parkor rot
president was a little over 6, 100,000
At the 1908 eloctlon, just held. Hon
J. W. Bryan received nearly 7,000,
000 votes, leaving President-elect
Taffs plurality less than half thai
for President RooBovelt four yenri
ago. A similar gain four years henc(
would unquestionably place tin
democratic nominee, whoever ho may
be, In the White House, together with
a decided democratic majority ir
congress. It Is more than probable
that Is what will occur unless consid
erable legislation on behalf of the
people and In restraint of tho trusts
Ib accomplished during the Taft ad
ministration. In Oregon Bryan re
ceived about 88.000 votes, while I em
than 18,000 wero cast for Parkor In
this state four years ago. With such
a showing as has been made, the
dnmooratlo party Is altogether too
lively for a corpse
