Costs Socialist Orator 10 to Upbraid
.Medford Citizens.
E. J. Lewis, the socialist spell
binder, who spoke in the streets of
Roseburg last week, has enriched the
city treasury of Medford to the ex
tent of $10. The Medford Mall, Is
sue of Oct. 20, explnlns:
E. J. Lewis, who was arrested Sat
urday evening while addressing nn
audience In front of the Hotel Nnsh.
was given a henriug yesterilny before
Recorder Collins. .
The complaint filed In the case
charged him with a violation of or
dinance No. 3, by "wilfully and un
lawfully using violent and abusive
and threatening language publicly"
and that he did abuse certain citizens
with the intent to create a disturb
ance, contrary to said ordinance and
against the peace and dignity of the
state of Oregon," to which complnlnt
Lewis entered a plea of not guilty.
A number of witnesses were ex
amined and brief arguments followed
by defendant and E. E. Kelly, acting
city attorney. Recorder Collins im
posed a fine of $10.
The case against E. E. Kelly, grow
ing out of the same difficulty, was
continued for hearing at some future
time.

A FARM BUILT OF CONCRETE.
Reinforced concrete Is generally
associated with large industrial
buildings such as warehouies, mills
or factories, and because of its use
(or structures of this character it
has come to have a rather bad repu
tation as far as Its artistic side is
concerned. That It is possible, how
evec, to produce structures of this
material, of a character acceptable to
ihe owner of largo country farm es
tates as well as to the landscape.rnr
ihltect. says Cement Age, is demon
strated In the group of farm build
ings recently completed near Ster
lington, N. Y on the estate of Mr.
1''. L. Stetson. Designed as they are
for the many diverse uses which oc
jur In connection with a large estate
of the character of Mr. Stetson's
these buildings constitute an unusuai
concrete group. The care with which
the design was worked out is shown
In the list of rooms provided for
There are, In nddltlon to the com
barn and hay barn, bull pens, call
lienB, feed biUB, root cellar, bolle:
room, coal bins, milk room, wash
room, laundry, kitchen, grnln bins,
and complete living quarters for the
dairyman's family.
The exterior of all of the buildings
consist of a pobble-dash linlsh. This
was composed of a mixture of sand,
pebbleB and cement, which was ap
plied after the falls had been rough
ened and scratched at a considerable
tlmo afier the completion of the
buildings. A final brush coat of Band
and cement was applied over the pebble-dash;
this was mndo very thin.
To contrast with the Portland grey
of the walls, the roofs of all build
ings were mado of red semi-glazed
l.udowlcl tile laid on one by two
shingle lath which was put dlroctly
on the roof and well Imbedded in
cinder concrete Inid on the reinforced
concrete slabs.
The partitions In the cow barn are
formed of solid concrete three feet
eight Inches high and four Incites
thick, reinforced with -tnch twlBt
ed Bteel bars. The partitions in the
cottage, all of which are plastered
both sides, are, in some instances.

Swollen glands about the neck, weak eyes, pale, waxy complexions,
running sores and ulcers, skin diseases, and general poor health, are the
usual ways in which Scrofula is manifested. The disease being deeply
intrenched in the blood often attacks the bones, resulting in White Swelling,
it hip disease, and the scrofulous and tulrcul:ir matter so thoroughly
lestroys the healthful properties of the blood that Scrofula sometimes
terminates in consumption, an incurable disease. The entire circulation
being contaminated, the only wny to cure the trouble is to thoroughly
purify the blood anil restore the circulation to a strong, healthy state.
S. S. S. is the very best treatment for Scrofula ; it renovates the entire
ilood supply and. drives out the scrofulous and tubercular deposits. S. S. S.
s the greatest of all blood purifiers, and it not only goes right down to the
. ery bottom of the trouble and removes the cause, but it supplies the weak,
liseased blood with the healthful properties it is in need of, and in this way
milds up weak, frail, scrofulous persons and makes them strong and healthy.
i. S. S. is a gentle, safe, vegetable preparation and is suited for persons of
