(iantenbein in the circuit court today.
Judge (.iantenbein held that the Sun
day closing law was unconstitutional
because the legislature had no right
under the supreme law of the land
to discriminate between occupations,
and based that decision on the con
stitutional law which allows freedom
in religion.

At the coroner's Inquest held at

oung boy picked up under the rail
road trestle north of that town, Sun-
ay morning, the identity of the boy
as not ascertained, rue coroner s
urv found that the boy was either
thrown or fell from a running train,
nd no responsibility was lixed. Since
the tragedy and the description of
the boy has been given publicity in
the Portland press Cornonor Jewett
as received three different inquiries
om parents of runaway boys in that
city. In neither instance, however,
did the description given tally with
that of tho dead boy. A rourtn in-
uiry bears a description that tallies
n some respects, and it may be thut
this will lead to the boy s Identifi
cation. The body is still at Oakland
awaiting a claimant, but If none ap
pears by tomorrow It will be given
burinl near that town. Jackson and
Murray, the youthful "hobos who
were with the dead boy but a few
hours before the tragedy, and who
were the principal witnesses at the
inquest, are now In the custody of
County Judge Wonacott In this city.
Each of the boys is 10 years ot age.

The Eugene Commercial Club has
decided to lay out the Southern Pa
cific depot grounds thore into pnrks
and gardens, making the station one
of the principal features of Eugene's
civic beauty. Trees and flowers will
be planted on the grounds, which in
clude several acres and a fine exhibit
will be kept permanently installed
in the depot grounds in order that
transients may learn at a glance
something of the advantages of the
country. The work of platting and
planting will be taken up at once,
so that by spring the new grounds
will be a lawn and flower garden.
