- CONTAINS
NO MERCURY
' Medicines containing Mercury are often given to persons suffering with
Contagious Ulood Poison, and so powerful is the action of this druir that it
frequently removes the symptoms in a short while, and shuts the disease
up in the system to do greater damage to the delicate internal members,
W hen, however, the treatment is left olf, the disease always returns, and the
patient hnds that his health has been injured by this powerful mineral, and
ne is oiten leit with weak stomach, disturbed digestion, mercurial rheuma
tism, etc. The action of S. S. S. is entirely different. It contains no
Mercury, nor any other harmful drug, but is made entirely of healing,
cleansing roots nnd herbs. It cures Contagious HIkr1 Poison by removing
the virus from the blood. It searches out every particle of the poison
and does not leave the least trace for future outbreaks. S. S. S., in
addition to curing the disease, builds up and strengthens everv part of tli
body. Us fine tonic effects tone up the stomach and digestion, improve the
iippeiuc ami regulate llie entire system. Home treatment lioolc containing

- Robert Woods Cooke.
"Home Is the sailor; home from
sea.
And the hunter home -from the
hill."
In many respects our lives are
alike. We tread with fleeting feet
the sunny path of Youth, but cannot
dtay. We follow the many who pre
cede us and roam on and -en. We i
em to he seeking some higher and 1
better place as we move on through
the years of maturity; and find at
last when our hair has grown gray
nd our gait stumbling, that we have
been blindly seeking what lay all
around us on our journey; only, we
paused not to see It.
We differ in the paths by which
we journey. Some of us tread
through flowers, and amid sunshine,
reathiug the purifying atmosphere
the blue sky; others nnd only
dreary fastnesses, where the leaden
feet And no rest.
Both paths lead to the doorway of
Death; but how pleasant It Is to
pause on the threshold and looking
back through the glimmering twi
light of approaching night, behold a
bright pathway, made brighter by
the late presence of him who passed
that way but once.
we feel that such a pathway was,
left by Robert Woods Cooke, for now
that he has passed through the door-j
way we realize how pleasant was our.
association, with him. Ever linger
ing In our hearts will he the image;
of him who always gave a smile and
a kind word.
He lived a full life, feeling the
tender emotions of love, the hitler
pangs of sorrow, the responsibilities
of a parent, and sympathy for an er
ring friend.
It Is good for the world that such
men have lived In It; men who are
thankfully content with the station
In life God has given them, who cheer
fully perform the duties Bet before
them and accept with patience and
resignation the disappointments and
misfortunes.
Robert Woods Cooke was horn
Aug. 8, 1841, in Salem. Columbiana
county, Ohio, and died while at work
In his mine three miles east of Yon-I
calla, Sept. 23rd., 1908. aged 67
years, one month nnd 15 days. He
was not permitted, as many are, to
suffer through a lingering Illness, but
met death quickly and peacefully.
He was married on April 4. 18G7,
to Jane Lee, who has been his con
stant companion even to the grave.
To them were born three children:
Louella, who preceded her father to
rest; Harry Lee Cooke, who Is a
merchant In Drain, and Dr. John Le
bert Cooke, of Brawley, California.
In June, 1893, they responded to
the call of the West, and leaving the
wide circle of friends, came to Ore
gon, settling near Yoncalla, where
they made a pleasant and comfort
able home where all found welcome.
About three months ago they
bought a beautiful home In Yon-
colla and fait that they could enjoy
the afternoon of life; but it was not
to be. Afternoon passed quickly in
to evening nnd the shndow of night
passed over the doorway.
To the members of that home, who
must continue the journey alone, we
offer our sincere sympathy.
Parent, husband, friend nnd clti
sen: Today we bid thee farewell
Tomorrow we, too, will find the
blessed rest, and "come and make
our beds with thee." XX.
