is proud to have followed in the
footsteps of Oregon. We believe in
that principle so strongly that we
advocate the election of United
States senators by the direct vote of
the people. In the Republican na
tional convention In Chicago that
principle was voted down by a vote
of seven to one. Do you believe In
the election of senators by the di
rect vote of the people or do you
not? If you believe in that principle
vote the Democratic ticket, vote with
the party that represents your prin
ciples. "The Democratic party believes in
an indestructible Union of inde
structible states. You can not have
one without the other In its full pro
gres sand glory. When you destroy
the states you destroy the Union.
The Democratic party is opposed to
the dissolution of the Union. The
Democracy believes in the United
States of America, the Republican
party in the United Trusts of Am
erica. The Democratic party still be
lieves in preserving intact the three
powers of government, the legislat
ive, the judicial and the executive.
No President; however big the stick
he wields, is big enough to Invade
either of the other departments of
government. The Democratic party
does not believe in the old world doc
trine that the King can do no wrong.

he ought not to vote for any Repub
lican nominee for Congress that will
not promise not to vote for Pncle
Joe Cannon for Speaker. He is the
arch enemy of labor. You can not
move until he Is removed.

party believes that it is wrong for
any man to get without earning. The
Democratic party believes that It is
wrong for any man to ear nwlthout
getting. The Republican party is In
favor of both. Now, my friends,
mark this whatever any man getB
without earning, or whatever any
man earns without getting is wrong.
The Democratic party has always
stood against the centralization of
wealth In the hands of a few. The
Democratic party stands against the
centralization of political power,
against the centralization of Indus
trial power. It is opposed to both
forms, the Republican party favors
both forms. Which side are you on?
"Senator La Follette, the greatest
Republican in the nation, and the
greatest Democrat, too, outside of
the Democratic party, said that dur
ing the last four years 440 Indus
trial combinations were organized in
the United States, and they are mul
tiplying today like the stars in the
Heavens to rifle the cradle and rob
the tomb, to tax the swaddling
clothes of the Infant and lay their
hands upon the cerements of the
dead. They would. If they could,
put a meter upon the breast of the
mother and tax the hungry Infant so
much per gram.
"Where do these trusts come
from? We want to know under
whose administration and under
whoae policies they have sprung In
to being. During the last eleven
years more trusts have been organ
ized than have ever existed from
Pharaoh to Theodore: from Rom
ese to Roosevelt; more trusts than
have ever existed Blnce the forming
of the stars of creation. They say
that the present administration Is
unfriendly to the trusts. Had It
been friendly I wonder how many
more would have been organized.
Where Is this legion of trusts that
have been burled, where is the bury
ing ground. Show me their grave.
