A WOMAN'S APPEARANCE.

Often N.glecL It.
Of all the arts known to women
keeping up appearances la tbe most
DBeful.
A woman's most valuable asset is,
nrat of all, her appearance.
Aa I have said over and over again,
ire can't all be beautiful, but bere are
a few of tbe things we can possess:
Neatly brushed balr dressed up to
date.
Hands beautifully clean and nicely
manicured.
A complexion clear from the com
bined uses of castlle soap nud warm
water, good cold cream and face pow
der. Feet daintily and Immaculately shod.
A simple but becoming and up to
date hat.
A plain gown to match made In the
prevailing style and with the skirt
clearing the ground evenly.
Gloves properly mended and wltb all
the buttons on.
It Is wonderful bow nice one looks It
one pays attention to all these things.

stenographer who goes to work dressed
as if for n party. Her shabby nnery is
not only pathetic, but If you will ex
cuse a strong word disgusting to me.
It shows that we women cannot seem
to grasp the right Idea of work or of
the tltuoss of things; that we caunot
progress beyond chiffon frills nnd
cheap but gaudy flowers In our hats,
but must have them even when they
are of poor quality.
Rut X have even less patience with
the clever emancipated siecitnen of
my sex who has too much brains to
dress well.
"I can't be bothered," she assures
you, and that's where she mokes the
mistake of her life.
Brains nnd plain, tasteful dressing
:lre not Incompatible. Far from It. A
woman Is a woman tlrst nud then any
thing she wants afterward. No matter
how much gray matter she has, her ex
terior should le sweet and attractive
and charming. Ily neglecting this part
of her personality she proves that she
Is not so clever as she thinks she Is.
When a woman docs anything she Is
apt to run to extremes. l.ct ub te well
balanced and rememler that we owe It
to the world ns women always to look
