county show there has been a big
decrease in the number of sheep 'n
the county In the past two years. It
Is estimated that in 1906 not lena
than 600,000 aheep were run on the
ranKe of this county, hut this year
there are less than 200,000. This
decrease has cut down the revenue
o fthe county and has forced many
of the former woolKrowers out of
the business. The things that hav
contributed to the reduction are that
range has been scarce since the crea
tion of the forest reserves, that the
price of wool has gone down, the
high price of carcasses last year,
and the fact that many of the lan (if:
or the county that have heretofore
been open to the sheepmen have been
leased and closed to. the woolKrow
ers. addings to the scarcity of the
range caused by the reserves, on
which the number of sheep are lim
ited so that the gras sis protected
The chief wealth of Lake county has
here tofore been in the wool and
