Edwin Weaver wns down from
.Myrtle Creek Wednesday. He will
begin hop-picking in his 4 5 -acre
yard on Monday, Sept. 7th. He has
a good crop this year and sold the
same under contract some time ago
for in' cents per pound. He also
has a bout Of. acres of prunes .on
which the harvesting will begin
about a week later. His prune crop
is so heavy this year that the size of
the fruit will not be so large as last
year's.

Hoseburg Steam Laundry wagon in
dulled in its regular weekly runaway

to turn around. The result was thai

the work of the conference year on
Sept. 23rd. when the Annual Con
ference wilt convene at Salem, Ore
gon. The church has made remark
able advances along all lines. One

funds and complete plans for the re
ception of the American lleet in .lap
auese waters in October. Admiral
Viscount Ito, chief of the naval gen
eral Btaff, is a member of the recep
tion committee. The commercial In
terests of Toklo will co-operato with
those of Yokohama In the entertain
ment of the lleet at the latter city.
It is estimated that f.Mtu.OOO will be
needed to defray expenses, and a
considerable portion of this sum hay
already been subscribed.

ly debate between the conservatives
and radicals of the Church of Eng
land In Canada will likely be preci
pitated at the session of the General
Synod to be held here next month.

churchmen to some of the advanced
teachings of clergymen and college
professors. In order that the mat
ter may be threshed out by the sy-.
nod, the Rev. Dr. Langtry has Intro
duced a motion attacking the "con
tusions of what is known as the
higher criticism,' The "higher
critics" and "modernists within the
church will likely oppose-the adop
tion of such a motion, and a verbal
warfare may result.
