, Starting about 3:110 o'clock Fri
day afternoon, lire destroyed live
stacks of grain on the R. R. Dixon
farm, about seven miles east of this
city. The grain was mainly oats and
was estimated nt about 800 bushels.
Fire evidently started from a spark
from the engine of J. T. Spaugh's
thresher, which had started work
there only a few moments before the
lire was discovered. An alarm of tire
was al once raised but the Humes
seemed to envelop the stacks of grain
almost like a lla.di. The engine was
stopped, the big drive belt thrown
off and the engine was run around
to the rear of the thresher. There,
after three or four attempts, a chain
was fastened to the machine and it
was drawn out of danger. The self
feeding attachment of the machine
was burned. The grain was a total
loss, with no insurance.
