TO PIANO
Iu consideration of a second carload order for
Bush Lane and Victor Pianos,
the factory representative
Mr. W. A. Fitzsimons
will on Friday and Saturday offer extraordinary
concessions in price on the five (5) pianos re
maining from the first carload of fourteen (14).
The regular Portland and San Francisco prices
on these goods are marked plainly, and after this
sale these prices will he strictly maintained. Jn
addition to Mr. l'urr's special introductory con
cession in price of 15 per cent, Mr. Fitzsininisons
with make a further reduction which cannot
help hut tempt the most conservative huyer.
There are But Five Pianos Led
of the first carload of fourteen. If you haven't
figured on buying a Piano for the next two years,
it will pay you to buy right now. You can pay
part cash, and the balance will be made on
terms to suit your convenience. It is the chance
of a lifetime to purpchase a genuine, High (irade
I'iano at the regular juice of a Medium (irade
l'iano.
Burr's Music House,

THE OIIKGON SF.NATORSIIIP.
Albany Herald, Rep.: When the
election polls closed on the night of
the first day of June, 1908, the ques
tion of whether a republican or a
democrat should represent Oregon In
the United States senate for six years
to succeed Senator Fulton, was defi
nitely settled. The campaign was
made mainly on Statement No. 1,
which in reality was nothing more
than whether the people of this
state democrats and republicans,
socialists and prohibitionists should
choose their United States senators
or continue to permit the legisla
ture to select that official, without
any regard for the people's wishes
and demands.
The people by 1500 more than a
majority for Gov. Chamberlain over
Hon. II. Al. Cake by their ballots de
cided they wanted Gov. Chamberlain.
The Herald supported Mr. Cake loy
ally before the primary in prefer
ence to Senator Fulton, and it used
its Influence for the republican nom
inee In the general election. Hut
the majority preferred our chief ex
cutive. We believe the people should
elect United States senators by a di
rect vote, consequently we advocated
Statement No. 1. The Herald, there
fore, would be derelict to its duty as
a newspaper, and greatly stultify it
self did it not now advocate and
plead for Gov. Chamberlain's ratifi
cation, as demanded by the people of
this state last June.
We, of course, are cognizant of the
motive which prompted the old re
publican "machine" politicians to
knife Mr. Cake, who defeated their
choice, and vote for Governor Cham
berlain. Hut the motive of the dis
gruntled opponents of the people's
rule does not enter Into the matter.
A majority of the members of the
legislature VOLUNTARILY ' TOOK
UPON THEMSELVES THE OBLI
GATION to vote for the candidate
for United States senator who receiv
ed the popular vote of the people In
the June election.
There will be, and. perhaps, al
ready Is, great pressure brought to
bear upon legislators to Influence
them to perjure themselvxes and vio
late their pledge to the people upon
gauzy and flimsy pretexts but these
alleged arguments are merely sub
terfuges offered by machine politic
ians to execute their plans and pur
poses when they voted for Gov.
Chamberlain and defeated their own
nominee the choice of the major
ity of the republicans in Oregon.
Commenting upon these conditions
the Medford Tribune quite pointedly
says:
"There Is nothing sacred about a
political party. In a big city the or
ganization consists of nmbitious office-seekers,
big bwlncss interests
wanting special favors, dive-keepers
and toughs. In the country, petty
grafters take the place of the dive
keepers. There is always a boss who
waxes wealthy without visible menns
of support.
"Hack of the party Is always the
boss; back of the boss Is the corrupt
ing corporation what Is there
sacred about a party? How is It a
crime for republican legislators to
fulfill their pledges to the people by
voting for a senator the people want,
and how could It be meritorious to
violate sacred pledges and wear the
mantle of dishonor to please the cor
porations in the background?
"When a political party Is fnlth
less to the people from whom It ob
tains Its existence, nnd the people
find It out. then that party Is doom
ed. And If the discredited republi
can party leaders of Oregon, led by
the foolish Fulton and the jaundiced
editor of the Oregonian, do not cease
their counsel of reaction, repudia
tion and dishonor, their advocacy of
the betrayal of the people, then the
republican organization In Oregon is
doomed, for the people will have
none of those who flagrantly betray
them."
