The State Pair of Oregon for 1908,
will be held at Salem during the
week beginning September 14. The
Oregon fair la the leading agricul
tural eipoalllon on the Pacific coast;
that U acknowledged by all other
states. Special efforts have been put
forth by the management to make
the coming fair the greatest ever in
the history of the organization. Ex
tended classifications of livestock,
increased premiums and additional
conveniences for exhibitors in dis
plays will assure unsurpassed dis
plays which should be seen by great
crowds of people every day during
the week. The. progressive farmer
and stock growers of the state and
the Pacific Northwest have expended
considerable time and money during
the past year In the betterment ol
their herds and flocks, and many ol
them have slgnllied their Intentions
to show their best anlmalB at the full
ueit mouth.
Prank A. Welch, secretary of the
fair board, has received information
which Indicates that there will be ten
or more counties tc participate in
what la known as the "county ex
hibits" .contest for the cash prem

eight premiums, the first being
fllOO; second $250, third 1200.
fourth $150, and the remainder $100
each. This exhibit must contain ag
ricultural and horticultural products,
and any other articles that will show
up the resources of the state. The
counties thus fur 'expected to parti

mas, Multnomah, Marion, Yamhill
Linn, il.une, Henton, Douglas, and
Josephine these being In the west

The racing department will be fai
better than In the past; und that
means a great deal, as the bust rncoi

place on the Oregon State Pair track
The grandstand tins been remodelled
and Its capacity Increased to nearly
double. There will be no liquor e

grounds this year, and pool sellluir
has been made a thing of the past
Numerous Improvements about tin
race course have been made which
will lend an attractiveness to Um
speed contests and will be highly ap

will be numbered by many thousandr

horses will bo at the fair In nn efTorl
to pull down the rich purses offered
and between heata there will be some
specialties to amuse the crowds.
It Is the duty of all Oregonlans tn
patronise the fair, as it Is an agri

the word. The sum of $10,000 np

THIS OI'l'OltTlMTY IS YOl ltS COME IX AND I-KT 1'8 POINT THE WAY
If you are uot ready to live upon a tract of this laud, we will raise strawberries, :
raspberries, currants, cantaloupes, melons, potatoes, onions,- asparagus, celery,'
etc., ou your tract, put up the money for seed and labor, market the produce, and-
at the end of the seasou pay you one-half the net profits. It we didn t absolutely ,
know that this proposition would pay us, we wouldn't put our money in it, and;'
you are going to make a dollar everytime we do.. We can put small fruits andt
vegetables on the market two weeks earlier than any other section in Oregon, t
AND WE ARE GOING TO DQ IT NEXT YEAR. We have an orehardist
and farmer ot 20 years' experience who will superintend this work, and a member'
of this firm will give his personal attention to the property. The soil is of great;!
depth, and development between the rows does not affect the prosperity of the";
trees. Experiment has shown this to be true. One-half the profits of this' de-5
velopnient plan will pay you for your tract in two years, set it to orchard and put'
money in the bank for you. You will then have an orchard tract worth, in the
open market, twice the purchase price. We are NOT GUESSING at what we 'j
can do here, but this plan is the result of careful study extending over a period of
many mouths. If you want to join this successful fruitgrowing plan, come in
and talk it over with us before this tract is sold. Do it now.
