P. Gore, the blind senator from Ok

Chicago. At 3 o'clock this after

The platform committee referred

The credentials committee held a

"It has been made evident in the
pending campaign that the cam
paigners will seek to conjure with
the name of Roosevelt and will rtily
upon the president's ' policies as a
prized asset. The president has ad
vertised himself and his polilces with
a frequency and ability that surpas
ae the best effort a of the shrewdest

publicly proclaimed the president tc

of advertising the world has known.
The country has been told and has
not been allowed to forget that in his
opinion, his energies have been de

"To recall Democratic platforms,
speeches una measure is to convince
;.ny man that many of the president's
pullic ulleruuces mero derived from
an avowed familiarity with the
teachings of our party. His utter
ances that are Democratic have giv
en him his only claim to be a re
former and have contributed more
than all ele to the popularity he has
wijoyed. The heir and the party are
committed to 'unfaltering adherence
to the policies' of the president.
What are these policies and what
are the achievements ot president
and party.
"Tbe meaning lean generalities of
Hh injunction plank are an tiimilt to
the intelligence of those who demand
reasonable and subatknttal legisla
tion to prevent the admitted abuae of
this judicial process.
The president and hla party de
clares that a pre-election revision
of the tariff would be unwise. This
assertion has ben repeated in ad
vance on every election since the
enactment of the Diugley law and
surely the country will not again be
deceived by Republican promises to
revise the tariff after the election.
Their appeal to the people is this
Give us another chance to make you
a promise and the promiae will be
made.
"We have the spectacle of a presi
dent urging a refractory congreas to
pasa needed reforms and appealing
in vain, or we have another spec
tacle, that of a president for the sake
of his own popularity, for the sake
of the popularity of his own candi
date making a political play by urg
ing that congress do what he must
have known it would not do and
what we are forced to consider he
did nor wiah done. The president
stands sixmsor for Mr Taft. He de
sires that the laboring man; that
those who would have the govern
ment effectively regulate the rail
roads; that thou who would revise
and reduce the tariff and destroy the
trusts: those should believe that Mr.
Taft is not a reactionary but a mili
tant reformer, saturated with his
idea and that he will carry out "my
polleWw." Mr. Taft will have to
receive about seven millions of votes
before he can execute 'my policy.' To
Ket the votes for him the president
wishes to show, and he can show It
cheaply, by pointing to recommenda
tions that his party associatex have
ignored and will ignore.
"The press has told us In what
se'nil to be a aemi-offleial state
ments from the White House, that
the president was ho intent upon his
polleie that if congress adjourned
without enacting them Into law. he
would call an extra 'session. Con
gress did adjourn leaving unpassed
most of his favored measures and
the extra session was neer called.
If the president desired to have this
legislation the Democrat's were ready
to join in "its passage. Democratic
leader of the House, authorized by
all his party associates re'atedy of
fered the entire Democratic strength
in support of these measures. The
Ilepubllenns have less than sixty ma
jority in the Ilemse. If thirty or
them had joined the Democrats nil
of these measures would have pas
sed there nnd gone to n Republican
senate. So far as the House is con
cerned less than one-seventh 01 the
Republicans were needed to change
these recommendations into law.
The Reni bl lean support was not
forthcoming.
"I,i t us see m hat could have been
done if lfgfHjatiun Instead of party
advantage had been desired.
"If a part of the Republicans' had
joined the Democrats In support of
measures proposer! by a Republican
president, the power with which
soni Kwderal judges have hastily
thrown heir authority into the scale
aga-inst labor would have been reg
uhited by law.
"A fair trial In all cases of direct
or constructive contempt of court
would now be provided by law.
"Labor woulcV be exempt from the
prohibition of the Sherman law
against combinations.
""Wood pulp and print paper
would now be on the fn list Srid
the present tax upon intelligence to
that extent abolished.
"No longer would it be In the

Iend it by temporary Injunction. A

One is thnt if the delegation from tho
