Official notice has been given of the
joint meeting to bo held in Portland
January 12th and 13th of the Oregon
Development League and the Oregon
Press Association. The program will
include a business meeting of the Press
Association and sectional conventions of
the Oregon Development League for
the consideration of phases of Oregon's
industries.
Judge John E. Scott, of Salem, will
have charge of the good roads section,
as the hea 0f the Oregon Good Roads
Association, and other departments in
eluding dairying, general agriculture
and horticulture. All the sessions will
be conducted at the headquarters of
the Commercial Club.

revolutionary spirit of the army was
exemplified in the hospital here today,
by wounded soldiers just returned from
a battle with strikers. As an officer
entered the hospital he was jeered at
by the wounded soldiers, and the of
ficer struck one of them to the Hoor.
In an Instant all of the soldier's com
rades who were able to leave their beds
started towards the ollicer, who fled,
leaving the invalids cheering for revo
lution. Advices from Bostoff eay that Cos
sacks have inflicted heavy loss of life
in suppressing a riot there.
HALF HIS ARMY MUTINOUS.
St. Petbushuiiq. Dec. 15. Blood
was shed today in a raid of 500 railway
men upon Hooligans' houses at Moscow.
The police attempted to prevent the
raid and the workingmen fired, wound
ing several of the officers. Cossacks
came to the rescue and dispersed the
mob.
The revolutionists laugh at the War
Office's command to send reinforce
ments to Vilna and declare that the
troops would be in mutiny before they
had marched a hundred miles.
The troops at St. Petersburg follow
ing the example set by the Moscow sol
diers, are sending officers as delegates
to the revolutionary meetings. The
Railway Men's Union has caused to be
sent to the Manchuriun army telegram
reading:
"Even If a general strike is declared
on the railways, we will see that you
are brought home to assist in the fight
for Russia's liberation."
General Linlevitch has sent the gov
ernment a message in which he ex
presses grave fears for the future of the
army. The telegram reads:
"I cannot long J combat the growth
and spread of the revolutionary prop
aganda in the army, more than half of
which Is mutinous."
The revolutionists threaten to inter
cept specie sent abroad by railway
from St. Petersburg to pay interest on
foreign loans. The fate of the last ship
ment Is unknown.

Family Perishes in Fire.

Peter Mattel, his wife and three chid
ren were burned to death in a fire
which destroyed their home, this morn
ing. The position of tho bodies when
fiund indicated that Ma loll had car
ried the children from the burning
part of the houso to tho kitchen and
then returned for hie wife, when the
floor collapsod burying the entire fam
ily under tho timbers.

Jack Hamilton returned Monday

raised for the relief of Mr. I. Johnson,
of Nugget, who is afflicted with con
sumption and unable to work. An

money to get the unfortunate man and
his wife and child back to their home

as chairman of the board of directors
of the Mutual Life and the position
given to Edward H. Harriman, who
will also be placed on the board of
trustees. It is predicted that Peabody,
the newly elected president of the
Mutual, will not retain his position
very long, as the stockholders who
were obliged to accept him are now
ready to expel him.
It is likely that the investigation
committee will go to Albany in a
couple of weeks to inquire Into the
methods of the state insurance department.
Wants Arizona Separate.
Washington, Dec. 10. Gov. N. O.
Murphy, of Arizona, is ia Washington
to make his regular light agunist the
consolidation of .Arizona and Now
Mexico into a single state. "As long
as that obnoxious proposition 'is before
Congrts?, I shall bo in this vicinity
seeking to oppose it by every legiti
mate moans," said he. "Tho people of
Arizona are against It overwhelmingly,
and if a fair expression of the sentl
montof New Mexico could be taken, a
majority of Its people .would be found
