Four regiments of troops ber'e have seat word to the striking workingmen, saying: "We will not spare cartridges, bat they will not be directed against you," meaning that they would not sh oot to hit any of the workingmen. A massacre of 600 Jews is reported to have taken place at Turisk yesterday. A priest is said to have incited the massacre and afterward praised the murderers. LA FOLLETTE WITHDRAWS. Madsion, Wis., Dec. 14. That he has just decided not to accept the United States Senatorship iadeclard in official circles today to be the subject of special message which Gov. John La Follette is preparing to send to the legislature. The reason given for La Follette's declination is that the legis lature killed his favorite bills, and that bo desires to seek a fourth term as governor in order, if elected, to be in a position to have those bills reconsid ered. Editor: Please allow me space In your worthy columns. I am a little late, in expressing my gratitude for Thanksgiving. 1 am thankful that I am still alive and do not have to work for a livelihood. 1 h ave my choice, I can work or starve. I am also thank ful that I live in as nice a precinct a wo have now. I owe thanks to the county board who granted us such a precinct. It Is politically equally divided and one great blessing is that we have not got a full pledged social ist in the district. We have a few who believe In dividing up. For instance, I had a fine piece of corn, and the man who joined believed In his hogs eating the corn, but did not believe in divid ing up the hogs after they ate the corn Xdo not begrudge him the corn, if that is socialism. There is another man continually howling socialism, on the highway; Invariably practicing selfish ness in the by-ways. When you re mind him of his doings, he says you must do so under the present competitive system.
