"That there has been a persistent decline of ' the birth-rate in the United States since 1800," ia the conclusion reached in a bulletin issued by the Census Bureau, Tlie bulletin was prepared by Prof, Walter F. Wilcox, of Cornell Universi ty! and it is explained that, although an analysis made offers many sugges tions as to tbe probable tendencies in the birth-rate of the United States, it is primarily not a study In birthrateB but a study in the proportion of children to the total population, or total number of child-bearing age. Here are eome of the facts about birth-rate. Children under 10 years, one-third of tbe population in 1800; one-fourth of population in 11)00. Proportion of children to women in creased between years 1850 and 1800; has decreased ever since. Children under 5 to lOOOVomen be tween 15 and 49 years, 034 in year 1800; 474 in year 11 WO. Birth-rate in Oregon increased from year 1850 to lHfiO ; decreased ever since. Ratio of children to 1000 native white women In year 1000 wns 402; to 1000 foreign-born white women, 710. Of Interest to Sick People. We have all the sympathy in the world for sick people, and want to treat them in a serious way. There Ib no humor In pain and nllliction, but hard earnest fact It Is impossible for tno put it in to impress on others ttie extent of sulVering they endure, and their anxiety for relief. To get wol or be relieved is their one thought and any remedy that will bring this abou bus their everlasting gratitude. We have thousandth of letters from people who have had dyspepsia, sick-headache and bilious attacks, who tell us how thankful they were for having used Dr. Cunn's Improved Liver Pills. They are sold at all drug stores for 2iio por box. Only one for a dose. These pills remove the cause of disease and make the skin clear aud healthy look ing. For Bale by A. C. bursters & Co. Conrad Krebs, who formed the pool of Oregon hop growers last year, is now at work form ing a corporation among the growers of the state for the 1005 crop. "The growers are fully protected this year," he said this morning, "and the 1905 crop will see at least 25 cents. Reports from New York and Califor nia indicate partial failure of tbe crop in those stateB and the yield in tbe United States as a whole will be lower than for years. Tbe Oregon growers have things in their own bands, and all they have to do is to bold their bops." Mr. Krebs estimates tbe Oregon yield for 1005 at about 85,000 bales, which is a little less than last year's yield. A Touching Story is the saving from death, of the baby girl of Geo. A. Eyler, Cumberland, Md. He writes: "At the age of 11 months, our little girl was in declining health, with serious Tbroat Trouble, and two physicians gave her up. We were al most In despair, when we resolved to try Dr. King's New Discovery for Con sumption, Coughs andColdB. The first bottle gave relief; after taking four bottles she was cured, and is now in perfect health." Never fails to relieve and cure a cough or cold. At A.
