Through its instrumentality several of the leading streets wero set out last spring with shade trees under municipal control under tho provisions of a special oct of the last state legis lature permitting a majority of prop irty owners on any street or portion of street in the village to Initiate a proceeding to that end. Thus will be secured not only public interest In the enterprise, but uniformity in the trees and spacing, and an occasional prop erty owner who has heretofore, be cause of the trifling expense, refused to plant trees can now be compelled to do his share. The lecture was given at the eighth of the series of pharmaceutical meetings nt the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. Dks Moines, la., Aug. 14. Left for dead yad stripped for post-mortem ex amination, Loula VIele, an Italian, frightfully stabbed by a negro, astound ed the hospital corps today by coming back to life. The heart bad ceased beating and respiration bad ended when Dr. Wilbur Conk ling inserted his hand in the wound which had been made by a razor, pinched the heart and awaited developments. Suddenly a shudder passed over the frame of the patient. The pale face became sutlused with a swift inrush of blood and the veins and arteries began to pulsate. Id five minutes the erst while dead was living, and the physi cians proceeded to sew the gaping wounds. Local doctors declare that thla case has no parallel in the annals of medi cal science.
