After the in . traduction of testimony by tbe deteose, in tbe Williamson-Van Gesner land frauds case today, to show the charac ter of tbe timber claimsn question, U. S. Attorney Heney betran his argument to the jury, for the prosecution. He will be followed thisafternoon by the attorneys for the - defense. WAIVES RIGHT OF ARGUMENT. This afternoon the defense in tbe case of Williamson-Van Gesner, et. al., sprung a surprise by waiving their right of making a final argument to the jury. A recess was taken by the court until three o'clock to permit Judge De Haven to write bis instruc tions to tbe jury. As soon las his charge is delivered, the jury will retire to formulate their verdict. POINT AGAINST WILLIAMSON. .Portland, July 18 Cc- jressmsn John Newton Williamson was on the witness stand in the United States Circuit Court all forenoon Monday. His testimony was the feature of the day's proceedings and bis cross ex aminations was a feather in the cap of the Government. Tbe defense has contented that Williamson was at Prineville only for a short time in July, ' 1002, and when tbe same thing was affirmed on tbe stand by Williamson he was confronted by District Attorney Heney with the register of the Poin dexter Hotel, in which under date of June 15, 1M0, was to be found the Big nature of John N. Williamson. Tbe Congressman said that the signature was not his own, but be confessed that tbe name "Prineville," appeared to be in hiB hand writing. Moreover, he was not prepared to swear that be was not in Prineville at that time. This point bears out the theory of the Government that Williamson was in Prineville more than two weeks be fore tbe filings were made; that there was a perfect understanding between the defendants; that he arranged with bis wife to file, and that he then went back to Tbe Dalles and negotiated a loan to make payment on tbe claims and caused bis wife to file shortly af ter his departure. George Kenny Red'fer was born in Hickory Co., Mo., on Feb. 24, 1882, and died at Portland, Oregon, from ty phoid fever, on July 11, 11)05. He was a irue and devoted son, a kind and loving husband. Accident bulletin No. 15, just Issued by the Inter state CommerceCommission, giving an account of railroad accidents in the United States during the months of January, February and March, 1005, shows that during the quarter 28 passengers and 204 employes were killed, and 1051 passengers and 2062 employes were injured in train acci dents, making in all 232 persons killed and 3713 injured in train accidents. Pendleton, Or., July 18 Ka-Moo, and Indian alottee of tbe Lapwai Reservation in Idaho, was run over by a freight train on the O. R. & N. a mile east of the city last night and Instantly killed. Before the tragedy was discovered another train had run over the Indian, his body being ground to pieces. It is believed that the Indian was drunk and was lying on the track asleep when run over.
