. CUT OFF TO BE 3UILT
From East Side of S. P. Line to Point
Sear Eugene.
Portland, Or., July 13. What, is
known as the Springfield-Henderson
cut-off a project which has been uoder
consideration for several years by tbe
Southern Pacific Is to be built. A
decision to that effect has been arrived
at this week, and work is to start Im
mediately. It is estimated the under-
tailing will entail Itn expense of ap
proximately lo0,000.
The cut-off will connect the Last
Side divisions oi the Southern Pacific
system at a point a short distance south
of Eugene. The new line will bo but
mile and twelve hundredths in length,
but the Willamotte. River must be
bridged, and this will provo decidedly
expensive. The main line passes
through Henderson, and the branch
from the Woortburn extends smith
through ripr'.ngfleld to Natron. The
cut-off will enable pasiengors from
points between woodburn and Matron
to reach Eugene and other main line
nolnts without difficulty, and will gen-
e-lly facilitate the Company business
in tne nanuiing oi trams.
