The following data, covering a period of 27 years, have been compiled from the Weather Bureau records at Rose- burg, Oregon. They are issuod to show the conditions that have prevailed, during tho month in question, for the above period of years, but must not be construed as a forecast of the weather conditions for tho coming month. Mean or normal tomperature, Gl (degrees. The warmest month was that of 1880, with an average of (15 degrees. BfThe coldest month was tbat of 1803, with an average of 58 degrees. The highest tomperature was 101 de grees on 7th, 1!I0:I. The lowest tomperature was 30 de grees on 0tb, 1803. The earliest date on which first "killing" frost occurred in autumn, Oct. 0. Average date on which first "kill ing" frost occurred in autumn, Oct. 30. Average date on which last "killing" Jrost occurred in spring, April 15. The latest date on which last "kill ing" frost occurred In spring, May 10. Average precipitation for the month, 1.15 inches. Average number of days with .01 of a& Inch or more, 7. The greatest monthly precipitation was 6.04 inches In 1888. The least monthly precipitation was O.01 Inches in 1883. The greatest amount of precipitation recorded in any 24 consecutive hours was 1.(10 inches on 3rd, and 4th, 1881. Average number of clear days, 11; partly cloudy days, 0; eloudy days, 10. The prevailing winds have been from the northwest. The average hourly velocity of the wind 1b 4 milos. The highest velocity of the wind was 8 miles from the southwest on 23rd, 1884. Tiros. ' Former State Senator C. M. Brown, of Marion county, Fla., has filed notice of a suit for $25,000 damages against The Metropolis, an afternoon paper of Jacksonville. The basis of the suit is the charge made by that paper that the Senator accepted and rode on a railroad pass. Under tho Florida law it is a crime for senators or representatives to accept or ride on free passes, and the charge of the same is. equivalent to the charge of a crime. The declaration in the caso will be filed In June. Brown was recently unseated in the Senate by tho contest of Basklns, of Marion. Ex. No Secret About it. . An attempt to assas- inate King Alfonso was mode at mid night, as His Majesty drove with Presi. dent Loubet from a gala performance at the Grand Opera House. A bomb was thrown by an anarchist, and ex ploded with deadly elfoct near the royal carriage. As if by a miracle. both the King and President escaped uninjured, but fragments of the missile seriously injured five persons, killed or maimed a number of cavalry horses forming the escort and knocked out a child's eye. The King and President retained their presence of mind, His Majesty sending back a member of his suite to make inquiries as to the condi tion of the wounded. The person who is believed to have thrown the bomb has been arrested with two others who are thought to be Implicated in the plot. Dying of Famine is, in its torments, like dying of con sumption.
