Sackett will leave Saturday for St. Johns where he has secured em ployment. L. O. McKenny, former owner of the Glendale News, has again embarked in the newspaper business, having pur chased on 9 of the two printing-oilices at Santa Marie, Oil., a city of about 2500 population. His paper is called the Graphic. Geo. iCohlhagen was in town Tues day, accompanied by Balfour Spiker, of Oakland, and during the day an im portant business transaction took place, Mr. Spiker purchasing the Economy Meat Market from Mr. Kohlhagen. A splended new steol tnrn-table will be placed at Glendale at once. It will be on a much larger .scale than the present one. A car load of cement, some 38,000 pounds, has already ar rived for it. The home of N. P. Jones has been blessed with a new arrival, a IS pound .boy, who' arrived on the scene Wednes day afternoon. J. F. McGregor departed from Glen lale Monday evening for Portland, where he will seek employment. Doputy Game Warden Marvin was agreeably surprised Wednesday even ing by the arrival of his two brothers Wdii and Harry Marvin from Logans port, Indiana. He bad not seen his brothers for eleven years. They will remain for some time and may decide to locate here. C. Guinn went to Portland Wednesday with two carloads of sheep for himself, Jeff Medley and S C Quant. L. C. Sherman has returned from the session of the head camp' Woodmen of the World, recently held in Los An geles. Elmer Longbrake killed a cougar over eight feet from tip to tip on the Upper Calapooia a few days ago. O.J.Stearns made another trip to Portland Monday, with two carloads of sheep for E. G. Young & Co. and A. E. Smith. J, B. Gentry, a representative of the Knights of the Maccabees, is in Oak land for the purpose of instituting a local lodge of that popular fraternity. Eddie Sedge started to Klamath coun ty Monday evening, where he will erect a cabin and make the required improve ments on a homestead. J. W. Deardorff has purchased M. M. Thornton's interest in the Oakland Meat Market. The new firm is com posed of Albert McCulloch and J. W. Deardorff. G. W. Jones and family havo re moved from Wilbur to Pelicau Bay, where Mr. Jones is the popular propri etor of one of Southern Oregon's lead ing health and pleasure resorts. L. E. Warner, of Yoncalla, sold 8105 worth of cream to the Roseburg cream ery in one month. He finds the silo an invaluable adjuuet to hisfeed supplying department and is able to secure a good per cent of butlorfat. Kev. C. P. Woodward went to Grants Pass Tuesday to help in the installa tion of Rev. H. H. Brown as pastor ot tho Presbyterian church in that city. Dr. Townsond, of Roseburg, presided and preached the sermon. Rev. C. F. Woodward charged the pastor and Rev. Tweed, of Woodville, charged the peo ple. Mrs. Mary Riley died of consumption in Portland, May 1, aged 53 years. A husband and tbree children are left to mourn the loss ol a devoted wife and mother, M. L. Leeper, of this city, and W. A. Leeper, of Portland, are brothers of tho deceased. The remains were laid away in the Old Oakland cem etery Wednesday. Funeral services were conducted by Kov. W. S. Smith. The commencement exercises of the eighth grade class ot tbe Oakland school will be held at Young's hall, Friday evening, May 12, 11)05. Pre parations are being made for an excel lent program for tho evening. Cirouit Judge Hon. J. W. Hamilton, ol Rose burg has jbeen secured to deliver the class lecture, and tho diplomas will bo presented to the class by Superintend ent F. B. Hamlin, s there are 20 graduates tbe essays and class orations will be limited and the exercises varied from the usual custom upon such occa sions. The class history by Miss Esther Deardorff, the class prophecy by Miss Ada Jones, an Instrumental duel by MIsbos Maude Smith and Viv ian Dimmick, and an essay by Miss Janet Davison, valedictorian of the class, will be the principal features of tho exercises by the class.
