HOPGROWERS FORM A POOL Undeterred by Injunction Suit Filed Doring Meeting. Portland, Or. April 46 Summoned to appear in the state circuit court -within ten days to show cause why an injunction should Dot issue restraining them from forming a pool to prevent the hop market taking Us "natural course," the hop growers who assom bled in Portland today to effect a com binatlon to keep up prices, went ahead with their plan, at a secret meeting of sixty growers, represent ing 13,805 bales of hops raised in this state from market. V, ia understood that the owners of 3,000 more bales, or a total of 16,805 bales of the 17,000 bales remaining unsold in .this state, will also join in this movement. Sixty of the leading growers of hops in Oregon were in attendance at the meeting. A careful canvass of "those not present" showed that only about ten growers of prominence in the state failed to attend. A permanent organization was effect ed under the name of the "Orogon Hop Holders' Protective Association," with ofllce at Salem. The following resolutions were adopted, which Btate clearly the rea sons for the organization and the objects It is In tended to attain: Whereas, We, the holdors of hops in the State of Oregon, belloving the price of hops has boon maintained at its present level by moans of manipula tion by interested parties; and, Whereas, Wo buliove Jt-he Intrinsic "value of our hops, is from .'to to 10 cunts per pound; and, Whereas, It Is not ourdoslreto hamp or trade, bat to obtain such price for our bops br existing conditions suggest wo are entitled to; now therefore be it Resolved, That we, the hopgrowers of Oregon, in mooting assembled at Pnrthiud, this the lioth day of April, i005, hereby signify our Intention of holding our hops until the Ut day of August, 1005, or longer, unless before that time the price of hops shall have ruached over 30 cents per pound.
