Paris, April 22. According to of
fical advices . received here, steps are
being taken to prevent the Russian
protected cruiser Diana, now at Saigon,
from joining Admiral Rojestvensky's
fleet. The Diana Is now undergoing
repairs, and while in a neutral harbor
for that purpose, the authorities have
ordered the cruiser placed in such a
condition that it will be Impossiblo for
tbe vessel to go to sea.
MAY MEET OFF FORMOSA.
London, April 22. A report is
current here that tbe Japanese consul
at Manila has received a wireless
message from Admiral Togo, saying
that he expects to engage the Russians
shortly off the coast of Formosa. So
far as known, the Russian fleet is still
at Kamranh bay.
BITTER TOWARD FRANCE.
TOKIO, April 21. The Japanese re
gard tbe Kamranh Bay incident with a
growing'feellng of resentment, and bit
terness toward France.
Tbe Nichinlchi today asserts that the
evidence is conclusive that Admiral
Rojestvensky is usiug Kamranh Bay as
an actual naval base for belligerent ae-.

Kext Week.
Eighth grade final examinations were
held in the publlo sahools throughout
Douglas County on April 11, 12 and 13,
and 03 pupils of the 90 that finished,
out of an eligible total of 107, were sue-,
uessful in all subjects. Sixteen pupils
passed In at least seven subjects, which
gives them an opportunity to finish the
remainder at either of the next exam
inations to be held respectively on May
18-10 and June 8-0. The eleven pupils
who failed to reach tho required per
centage in at least seven subjects must,
in order to finish their course, take the
examination again In its entirety, '
The sixty-three successful pupils will
be presented with diplomas, which will
entitle them to entor the 0th grade of
any publlo school in the state. This
grade in its course of study Is equiva
lent to the first year in a high school.
County School Superintendent F. B.
Hamlin stated this morning that the
apportionment of money among the
school districts of the county will be
made during the fore part of next
week. The apportionment will be
computed on the basts of about $4 per
capita of the pupils enumerated in each
district.
