famous Apache chief, on the day of tho
hunt. It was hardly expected that any
one would take the offer, but toulght,
James Scott, a half breed Frenchman,
I who recently carao to Kansas City, de
clared that ho would submit to the tor
ture to get $1,000.

only condition he stipulates is that the
ranchman furnish a com potent physi
cian to sew the scalp on again and pay

Deceased - formerly conducted a
bakery in iioseburg, leaving here about
fifteen years ago. Several months ago
he returned to Roseburg and pur
chased some property on the edge of
town, where he intended to raise
poultry. Becoming ill, ho went to
Portland for treatment, but his case
proved hopeless. He leaves a wife to
mourn' his loss. She was in Portland
with him at the time of his death.
