West received a telephone message from Coquille City, Coos county, informing him of the death of his cousin, Joseph D. Hudson, at that place, April 6. Mr. Hudson was (So years ot age and a Douglas County pioneer of 1852. He le survived by bis wife and several children and a brother, Shadrick Hudson, of Coquille. With his father and two brothers, Mr. Hudson came to California from Ohio in 1840. Three years later they moved to Douglas County, Oregon, settling upon a donation land claim six miles east of Scottsburg. Here he re mained until 1885, when he moved to Coquille City, where he had residod up till the time of his death. "Jack the Ripper" Case. New York, April 7. Elements of mystery, recalling the stories of "Jack tho Ripper," wboterrorJzsd the White chapel district of London aome yours ago, led to tho sensational stubbing to day in a Thlrtcieoth-street hotel of Mamie Wilson, a young woman. She died in a hospital a few hours after the stabbing. The woman was stabbed in the abdomen. The wound was made with a very long knife. The character of the cut was a similar to that made on tbo victims of the London "Jack the Kipper". James Boyne, a club steward and a patron of the hotel, has been arrested. He told the police he was with the woman, but said she had left him and he did not know how she was stabbed. When he was arrested it was found that seven of Uoyne's teeth had been knocked out, and that' one of bis eyes had been blackened bv a blow. Wade Leaves Country. Pendi jMTON, Or., April 7. Wade, wh,030 colossal failure of more than a year ago gained him an unenviable notoriety, has quietly and mysteriously dropped out of sight, and it Is aid hero on good authority that prominent business moo made up a purse of 61030, which they gave him to go on. Although Wade left Pendleton several weeks ago, his departure was so carefully concealed that only now has the general public awakened to the fact. And it Is taken as a foregone conclusion that Wadn will never return to Pendleton. Mrs. Wada is now the only remaining member of the family here, and she will leave in a short time for Southern California, whore It is said Wade owns a large oraogo grove.
