Buckmaster, while painting the roof of Dr. Hoover's new residence, accidentally fell to the ground today, breaking his left arm, Mr. Buck master was seriously hurt several months ago by being struck by a train near the Deer Creek trestle, breaking bis right shoulder, and from which he has not yet fully recovered. Marshfleld Mall: W. S. Chandler received a broken kne?-cap and Ira Chapman a number of severe bruises by being derailed Sunday evening while returning from Beaver Hill on a railway motor cycle. The cause of the accident was a cow which walked on the track directly in front of the oncom ing motor just as they were entering the yard. The shock was a severe one, throwing the men some distance with the above mentioned results. The motor was slowing down to enter the yards and was running at a moderate speed at the time of the accident or the result would have been more serious. LOCAL NEWS. Thos. A very fine, complote set of silk robes for the use of the degree stall of Roseburg Rebekah Lodge No. 41, was received by the lodge at the regular meeting on Tuesday evening. This is one of the leading Rebekah lodges of the state. Norman Agee returned last night from Salinas, California, where he had been for about three weeks. Mrs. Agee will remain there , about that much longer, when their mission will have been brought to a successful ter mination. Mr. Agee flndB that the boasted California climate does not equal that of Douglas county. A few years ago that section sullered from lack of moisture while this season has been unusually wet, from 15 to 31 Inches of rain having fallen at various points in that district. Choice Oregon apples are now selling there at $2.00 per box, while apples from the famous Watsonvllle district bring only $1.60 nor box. Mr. Agee finds the orchards thero ore not in as good condition as those in this county. A strange and unusual thing noticed was lhat a num ber of apple orchards there bloomed after the rains last fall and developed some small, worthless fruit, and as a consequence will bear no crop this year. Mr. Agee also says the llavor of the California fruit is not equal to that grown here. Salinas is a good live town, while Pacific Grove is a model of neatness. KNIGHTS OF PYTHIAS Celebrated Their' Forty-first Anniver sary Last Night The members of Alpha Lodge No. 47, Knights of Pythias and their wives and sweethearts and several visiting brothers celebrated the 41st birthday of the order by a pleasant social event. This order has grown since its orga nization by Justus H. Rathbone forty one years ago until now its members number over half a million.
