J. A. Laird has returned to Koseburg
after an absence of over three years
two years spent in Alaska and the re
mainder of the time iu Washington.
Mr. Laird intends to return to Alaska
next June.
Mrs. John McKean, of South Deer
creek, went to Portland Saturday to
visit with her son, Elmer McKean, and
also with Clyde and Harry Hatfield,
who are attending a business college
there. She may remain a month.

night. Two pairs of shoes, 40 pounds

signed to the Fisher & Bellows Co.,:

men, but they claimed to have obtained
it outside of the car, where the origi
nal case containing the cheese was
found broken open. The men will
' have a hearing probably tomorrow.

: killing three men instantly and two

pound; hogs, oi cents per pound, live

At the District Convention of the
Knights of Pythias at Cottago Grove
Saturday, the Cottago Grovo team took
first place, Eugene second and Rose
burg third. A special prize was given
by the Cottage Grove lodge for the
best work in rendering the part of the
Sixth Senator. It was awarded to L.
A. Sanctuary, of Roseburg, and was.
in the form of an emblem pin of neat
design, with his name engraved upon
It. The Cottage Grove team will go
to Portlaud in October to participate
at the Lewis & Clark Fair on Pythian
day, and compete for the grand trophy
at tho Grand Ledge. It goes without
saying that the Roseburg brethren had
a very enjoyable time. Besides the
three teams there were present Grand
Chancellor T. M. Curt, of Albany and
G. K. R. S. L. R. St In son, of Salem,
and Editor Grant, of the Senator, of
Portland.
