Further evidence of the class of political trlckstors to be found In the Oregon senate, Is shown by the resolu tions passed on Tuesday endorsing Senator Mitchell, in connection with fixing a date for linal adjournment. It iad been currently tulked for the past two weeks that an adjournment of the legislature would probably be tuken until next October. Of courso, Huch action would ooly be taken for tho pur pose of chosing a successor to Senator Mitchell, in the ovent of his conviction upon tho charges for which he is now under indictment. Such action, If taken by tho legislature, would virtual ly have boen an expression of their be lief In his guilt, and would have been . so considered by the people throughout the state. Tborolure, while there wus evidently a strong disposition among the schemers to adjourn to some later date, It was soon found that it could not be done without seriously prejudic ing the Mitchell caso, and they took a new tack by introducing a strong en dorsement of Mitchell In connection with a resolution to adjourn on the Tegular constitutional date for closing. .Jfts a matter of fact the legislature ' really had no occasion to take up the Mitchell case In any way. If he is not guilty of the charges brought against him he should not have been indicted, but If ho Is guilty be should be punished the same as any other criminal. This action by the legisla ture seems to be virtually an attempt to Influence the public mind and thereby the jury which is to try the (case In advance of the hearing, and Is therefore thoroughly reprehensible. 3'ot, while several senators oxplained ,., their votes on the resolutions referred to, only Senator Coshow, of this county, had tho courage to vote Against them and thus go on recor against the legislature interfering In what Is really a matter In which, as ' body, they have no concern. Death of Mrs. D. L. Hedden. Olalla News. Special to Kvenlng Review. Dhaim, Ore., Feb. 7. Mrs. D. L. Hedden died ut the home of her lic-jja,' busbanc'j father, .J . J. Hedden, In this town yesterday evening, Feb. 0, 1905, about six o'clock. She had been in falling health for some time part acd had been In Roseburg for the past few weeks for medical treatment but with out avail, and was brought home from there only yesterday morning after everything that seemed possible had been done for her. Her age was about 27 years. She was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wilson, of Yon- calla, who, with two brothers, three sisters and an invalid husband and numerous other relatives and a host of friends are left to mourn her early de mise. She was preceded to the great beyond by a little daughter, the only child, about a year old, about two years ago. Mrs. Hedden was of a most amiable, gentle and lovable disposition and lived a consistent Christian life from her childhood, being a member of the Baptist church until within the past year or two, when there being no church organization of her choice in the vicinity she associated herself with the Methodist church. The sympathy of the whole com munity goes out to the bereaved rel atives and especially to tho Invalid husband whose health has been quite poor for the past three or four years. However, thore are some indications of Improvement In his condition within the past few weeks. The funeral will take place at Yon- caila tomorrow (Wednesday), with services conducted by Rev. H. T. Wire, of Drain. Interment will follow in the Yonoalla cemetery. W. Everything quiet. Miners are getting In their "best I. N. Day, of Portland, is visiting bis lather and mother, J. G. Day and wife. Fred Byron, of Nevada, came home Thursday and will probably remain here in the future. Geo. Wells, son of Postmaster W. R. Wells, left-today for Coos Bay on a trip of inspection. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Applegato were visitors at Kellober Sunday, and spent with us an enjoyable afternoon, guests wd! Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Illchey. Miss Rao Hamilton left for Glendale to attend tho bedside and funeral of her WUtcr, Mrs, Alice Lane, and Infant, wbo was fatally burned last week. Mrs. J. J. Kelleher would have also gone, but he could not reach Glendale In time. As an unusual occurence It has been noticed that the trout have jumped and played In Ullly Crook evory month the present winter- Mrs. J. T. Mlllor was a welcome visitor at this place during the week. Chester Miller, son of Mrs. N. A. Roberts, Is home from Jefferson, and will attend school at home during the forthcoming term. The many frlonda hero of W.
