with $1.80 in 1890. The average price
per short ton fu- bituminous coal at
the mine was $1.24, as compared with
$1.12 in 1902. The increase in value of

in value of coal of $130,092,312 over

For the twentieth time, the tTrs;ted
States Geological Survey has issued
its annual report on the mineral
resources of the country. The vol
ume containing tho statistics for the
calendar year is now available.
Hesides statistics, considerable descrip
tive and technical matter, obtained
w.iilo - the statistical canvass was in
progress, is presented. As heretofore,
the publication of this volume has
been anticipated to a preat extent by
the issuance in advance, in pamphlet,
form, of the several chapters which
comprise it.

total value of our mineral production
exceeded the enormous sum of
$1,000,000,000. The exact figures f r
