salesman, died at his home in that city

friends at an afternoon tea in their hall
last Friday, following the initiation of
three new candidates for membership
An interesting program consisting of
vocal and Instrumental music and
recitations was rendered.
J. G. Harrnan, who recently removed
from here to Orange, Calif., writes:
"This is a land of sunshine ther
mometer runs about 70 to SO. We are
raising beans and peas, etc., all winter.
There would be no coaxing us away
from California again". They may
wish for Oregon climate when summer
comes again.
The repair room of .las. Milliken's
shoo store, on Jackson street, was
entered by an unknown party Saturday
night. Several pairs of heavy shoes
and probably three pairs of gum boot,

taken. Kntrance was gained through
a window, tho night latch of which had
been thrown open during the day,
evidently by the burglar himself.

Mr. F. B. Waite and Atty. Dexter
Rice spent Sunday in Oakland. Mr.
Waito returned Friday night from a
ten days' trip to Spokane, Wash. Ho
reports business active and money
plentiful there at present. A main
feature in bringing this about was a
heavy wheat crop just being sold at
good prices, Mr. Waito went to Port
land last night.
Oregon Tiraberman: A. J. Osteon
of Glondale, has a yellow pine tree on
bis place which measures 27 feet in
circumference at tbe base, and 275 feet
high. It will scale about 30,000 feet.
The Glendale Lumber Company, of
Glendale, recently cut up a log 8 feet
3 inches fn diameter at the base. Tbe
tree was 27i feet high and cut 28.CC D
feet of lumber. Four logs, each 1(1 feet
in length, and ono log 20 feet long,
were cut before the lowest branch was
reached Eight thousand and
eighty acres of timber land, situated in
township 0, range 30 south, in Umatilla
County, are held by the Northwest
Timber Company. The land was all
transferred to the timber, company by
tbe entrymen on August 31 the same
day they secured their deeds from the
Federal Government. Fifty claims
were transferred for 8710 each, which
cost the entrymen $400 each.
