E. Matthews is at Looking Glass at preseut. Miss Emma Bushnell, of Ten Mile, was in Reston last Monday. While the ortleial returns of las Tuesday's election in this state have not yet been announced in ail the coun ties, it is evident from the tigures at hand that the people of Oregon are not yet ready to adopt prohibition as a general law. Only hve of the -3 coun tics voting upon the measure appear to have a majority of votes in favor of it, aud in these the margins are generally small. Of the other IS counties, some rolled up heavy majorities against the proposed law, Marion county giving early LWO majority against it. Seven or eight counties did nut vote at all upon the question. We understand that many persons who voted for the measure did so with the belief that it was a precinct and not a county matter, aud thus unintentionally helped to in crease the vote in favor of general prohibition. It now seems probable that the legislature will amend the law, making it a precinct instead of a county measure, thus renderiug it in fact a local option instead of a prohi bition law, and giving every precinct A.
