ollieial statement of the Russian losses
in the (our days' battle at Shakhe
river, between Mukden and Yental,
wad issued today. Summarized, it as
follows:
Killed: 238 otneora, Including ono
general, and 17,(i50 men.
Wounded: 35 oflluers, including 3
generals, and 24,730 men.
One-hundred aud eighty-seven men
were captured by the Japanese. Ninety-
one guns were lost, but 37 of them were
subsequently recaptured.

Tokio, Oct. 24. It vras oiUcially an
nounced today that the Japanese casu
alties at the battle of the Shakhe river,
abovo Yentai, numbered 8,300 killed
and 20,000 wounded. Out of ninety
guns captured from the Russians, 37
were afterwards abandoned.

St.-Pktershuru, Oct. 24. A dis
patch received from General Stocssel
at Port Arthur today says the chief
suffering of the garrison there is a lack
of warm clothing for the winter. The
men, he says, are manufacturing their
own shoes out of all kinds of material.
Only a little horse meat is on hand,
but they still have an immense supply
of Hour.
