DISEASES
Altoona, Pa., June 20, 1903.
I was afflicted with Tetter in bad shape
11 wouia appear in oiotcnes as large as tm
hand, a yellowish color, and scale off
You can imagine how offensive it was
For twelve years I was afflicted with this
trouble. At night it was a case of scratch
and many times no rest at all. Seeing the
good the medicine was doing a friend
wno was taking it lor Eczema, I com
menced it, and as a result the enrntion be-
fan to dry up and disappear, and to-day
am practically a well man. Only twa
tiny spots are left on the elbow and shin,
where once the whole body was affected.
I have every confidence in the medicine,
and feel sure that in a short time these
two remaining spots wilt disappear.
S. S. S. is certainly a creat blood nuri-
fier, and has done me a world of good.
I am grateful for what it has accom
plished, and trust that what I have said
will lead others who are similarly afflict
Ml to take the remedy and obtain the
same goou results tnat I nave.

Editou Ruvikw: In the last big
strike in thlscountry it looks as though
labor organizations have received a
staggering if not a death blow. What
the result of their defeat will be no
one can tell. Capital is arbitrary
or is at least capable of being so
und Union organizations have at times
been unreasonable in their demands.
Their blind methods and unreasonable
exactions have had a tendency to alien-
ate those who bad always been their
friends and who believed most of their
grit wrices to be just. Whether they
will be able to gather themselves to
gather again under a more perfect or
ganization remains to be seun, . It will
certainly require great skill to control
them, ul.1 whether the man is forth
coming with sufficient capability as a
leader to do this in the question.
My sympathy is certainly with the
poor, the rich don't need any. The
special privileges that are given them
by legislation is enough. But they have
rights under the law and in rquiLy
that .ve are all bound to respect.
But has not capital outraged public
sentiment and trampled upon public
rights oftener than labor organiza
tions' Laboring men in their solicitude for
their wives and children and in their
need of opportunities to provide for
them and make tbera happy, many no
doubt have made miBtakes. But capi
tal has ia their greed and avarice
shown a willingness to wring every
dollar from the poor that tbey could.
We have a fair example of this right at
home. Good beef cuttle that has been
Belling here in the Umpqua valley for
two to two and a half cents per pound
gross, has been selling for 15 to 18 cents
per pound on the block in Portland.
And I have been credibly informed by
a number of persons who have suffered
by this condition that the poor are to a
great extent deprived of this great
necessity of life by the unreasonable
exactions and exorbitant prices de
manded by this money controlled mar
ket. Notwithstanding these patent
facts, the declaration has often been
made publicly by public men, leaders
of a party, .that the government has
no right to interfere in this matter.
That the people Who are the govern
ment have no right to protect them
selves against the greed and avarice of
this greedy age. If this is so, If our
government has no right or power to
protect the masses, then God pity the
poor. But it is not so. Reasonable de
ductions ought to convince any man
that it Is not so. We have no right to
starve the poor to enrich the pluto
crats. And this applies to all combi
nations. I have always thought if
fortunate that the farmers could not
successfully organise to control the
price of the products of their farms.
Sol that I believe them to be any more
exacting than other classes neither do
I believe them to be less so.
It is my experience that you will find
humanity the same the world over.
We have all got a large streak of sel
fishness in our nature that has got to be
curbed by law. And this shows the
necessity for legislation along the line.
While the world gives a tacit consent
to the golden rule, seldom recognize
it In their dealings with their fellow
men.
I believe the peaceable adjustment
of the relations between capital and
labor ia becoming the most serious
problem confronting the country to
day, and it has got to be met in a calm
non-partisan spirit, and on the equit
able grounds of the greatest good to
the greatest number, . with a due re
gard for the rigbtsof the minority. 1 0
do this we will have to divest ourselves
of our political prejudices and cease to
prate of our large campaign funds and
of ab.Hty to control political organi
zations by the weight of dollars.
When this time comes, although it
iruy mean the wreck of parties and the
death knell of designing pollticans, we
siould hall it as the dawn of purer
government based on a more exalted
patriotism and less blind partisanship,
Citizen.
