There was another bridge farther up tho river that was much higher than the one we woro on. From whero we were it 1 (Hiked to be at least -00 foot above tho water. It ran from tho city on one side to a high bluff on the othor and Bceuied to bo used for street cars. After getting tired of looking at the city, river boats and bridges, we went back to the de(Ht. This is a union do pot and does an immense amount of business, hundreds of eople passing through every hour. 1 thluk during the five hours we wero here there must have Iwen l-,0(0 people passed through that deiot. They havo a ladies' parlor, gent's sitting room, smoking room, lunch room, wash room, E5CAHPSEST OPENS. Pioneers' Reunion at Olalla Large Attendance. Has a Jpecial to Evening Review. Olalla, Oregon, Sept. !. The fourth Annual Encampment of Pion eers, Indian War Veterans and Native Sons and Daughters opened here to day with a very larjje attendance from various parts of the county. In fact a large number arrived yesterday and pitched their tents for the three days' session. A dance last night opened the festivities. Hon. Geo. M. Brown deliv ered an interesting address today and Hon. J. W. Hamilton will speak to morrow. Field sports are being well enjoyed by all. .Among tho visitors from abroad is Geo. H. Himes, of Portland, secretary of the Oregon Historical Society, who is greeting the oM pioneers. A Boy's Wild Ride For Life. We ran all night down the river and found myself at dawn in Illinois, then crossed the river into Iowa, ran down tho west bank of tho river 'SO or 40 miles, crossed back at Hock Island, passed through Moline where the Mo line wagons are made and saw the factory. We then went through an agricultural country, to Galesburg, thence to Peoria, stayed there two hours, thence to Atlanta, our old home which we left 4t years ago. L- T. T. The Stomich is the Man. Ashland Tidings: Upon a petition tiled in the County Court of Jackson county a few days ago, signed by Mrs. Damourette's daughter, Mrs. A. B. Gegox, and quite a number of promi nent citlxens of Ashland, Judge Dunn has issued a citation to Mrs. Jennie Burnum Damourette, and her husband, Dr. D. Damourette, to appear and show cause why a guardian should not be appointed to manage their affairs. It is declared .in the petition that Mrs. Damourette Is Insane and thtt her husband is a spendthrift; that they have been squandering a large amount of property belonging to Mrs. D. and that al' that is left is a bouse and lot in Ashland and that a guardian is needed to save this. Dr. and Mrs. Damourette have been traveling much the past year, the Doc tor ostensibly promoting his mining In terests In Alaska which he has main tained are very valuable. They have been much in Eastern Canada. Ke ceutly they havo beep In Mexico where it Is reported they now are. Sehlbrede, formerly of this city.) La Grande Gets County Seat La Gkaxdk, Or., Sept. 5. The county seat of Union County Is being moved from Union to La Grande as rapidly as men and teams can bring the j books, fixtures and furniture. The records are being deposited In the vaults of the new courthouse building at LaGrande. . With Judge gears' decision last week refusing to allow an application for an injunction restraining the Union County, Or., officers from removing from the town of Union to La Grande the official records incident to the county seat, ended a civic feud extend ing over 30 years of time. Since 1874 there has existed in this prosperous Eastern Oregon town an incessant war for possession of the site of county government, arid although the question has been for the second time passed upon by the courts, and although there is still talk of appealing to a higher tribunal, it is generally believed that the long struggle has at last come to a final stage Fearful Odds Against Him.
